William "Bill" J. McGovern died on June 20, 2025, after months of medical care. Bill was 57 years old. His father, John R., passed away before him. Bill leaves his mother, Eleanor; brothers Gerald, Brian, and Michael; his sister Eileen, two nephews Sean and Michael and many wonderful supportive friends. Bill was born and raised in Fanwood, New Jersey.
He relocated to Colorado 30 years ago to establish 1st Call Heating and Air, an HVAC company. He had two passions in life, the excitement of the knowledge of the unknown and his desire to serve others.
Bill was a founding member of Trident True a nonprofit veteran's service organization; a monthly donor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as well as being an organ donor. Bill, standing at 6'8" and known as "Big Bill", wore number 67 for the Colorado Wolverines football team. As a great storyteller his family and friends will deeply miss his life stories.
Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Friday, July 11th, from 4-7 PM. A funeral mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary RC Church, 1571 Martine Ave., Scotch Plains on Saturday, July 12th at 10 AM. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, in Westfield, NJ.
Bill's family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to St. Jude’s Research Children's Hospital online under St. Jude's or The ARC of Union County, 70 Diamond Road, Springfield, New Jersey 07081 an organization for the support of disabled persons.
