William Wade McGraw

William Wade "Quick Draw" McGraw passed away on June 14th, 2024 in the comfort of his own home with his loving wife Susie by his side. He was born on leap year, February 29th, 1960. They say some people have nine lives but Wade must have lived about 90 lifetimes in his 64 years here on earth. Although he was considered to be wild and unruly by many, he was the most compassionate, loyal, and loving friend to all. Although he had his moments of struggle, his antics were legendary and he never complained he always kept the faith and a positive outlook on life.
Wade graduated from Port Niches-Groves in 1977 before joining the US Navy. After being told his military options were limited due to being color blind, he decided to hit the road to Alaska where he communed in the wilderness for a bit before discovering his passion for welding. He then followed his calling to become a master welder and an expert pipe fitter. Being an expert at his trade with a free spirit allowed him to travel and explore different parts of the US, picking up work anywhere. Hitting the road was his happy place especially when he was riding his Harley. Never one to stay stagnant for too long, he had better had a fishing hole nearby if he was staying more than a few days because he always had his pole ready to fish.
Wade was an excellent writer and artist, always writing and illustrating letters and their envelopes to send to his loved ones. His handwriting alone was beautiful, his sketches were so artistic, that the letter alone felt like a gift to receive and many people shared that they kept them to this day.
Wade met his wife Susie while working in West Texas. They quickly fell in love and traveled across the country together, eventually settling down in Onalaska, Texas along with their dog Lightenin'. Wade never had children but kept a picture of his beloved dog, Bubba right beside his coffee pot. Both Lightenin' and Bubba traveled all over the map with Wade, they seemed to be conjoined at the hip. He had a way with animals, every animal no matter how wild, how big or small...all loved him.
Predeceased by his parents, Jimmy McGraw and Tina Sanders, he is survived by his wife, Susie Campos McGraw; daughter, Leslie Johnston; son, Christopher Johnston; grandchildren, Zoe Lyn Johnston; grandson, Wyatt Feaster; sister, Elizabeth Ash; brother, Keith McGraw; niece, Mollie Morgan, and her son, his great nephew, Jack. The family would like to thank Olive Branch Hospice for their compassion and care in coming to their home to work with him.
A private memorial celebrating Wade's life will be held at a later date. God bless you all and thank you for your condolences, stories, and favorite memories with Wade.
