William H Mockridge

William Mockridge, 97, passed away in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his family. He lived a full and honorable life. He was one of the 1% of the remaining World War II veterans and was proud of his time served with the Army.
He received the Army Occupation Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal.
He started with the Ocean Grove Fire Department - Washington Fire Company as a junior officer, and eventually served as fire commissioner. Just last year he was honored for 75 years of service.
It was rare to see him without his Army hat and fireman's jacket.
He was a lifelong resident of Ocean Grove and contributed to the community throughout his life. He retired from the Ocean Grove post office. He was a member of the American Legion Post 346, VFW, and the Neptune Senior Center. He was also a Master Mason.
He loved spending sunny days on his front porch with his Yuengling. He enjoyed his time at the firehouse with the guys, traveling with his wife (especially his time in Japan and cruising to Alaska), hanging with his ladies Marianne and Edna, attending Atonement Lutheran Church, and talking about his time serving his country. He loved his New York Giants, through good times and bad.
He was predeceased by his mother Flora, father Harry, wife Mary, and daughter Sherrie Trechel. He is survived by his daughter Lisa and son in law Tim Hall; sister Yvonne Jobes; son in law Tom Trechel; granddaughter Denise and husband Dan Loughlin; grandson Timothy Hall and fiancé Trevor Bernard; and great grandchildren Cameron and Taylor Loughlin. He was lucky enough to have been blessed with the best caregivers in his final 12 years including George, Laura, Richard, Annie, and Tea.
Memorial visitation to be held at Ely Funeral Home on Wednesday November 1, 2023 from 4-7pm, with a memorial service beginning at 5:30pm.
