William Donald Moricle passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on November 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Don was born October 22, 1931, in
Reidsville, NC to John Roscoe Moricle and Lillie Smith Moricle. He graduated from Reidsville High School and attended Wake Forest University- both at the old campus in Wake Forest, NC, and the "new" campus in Winston-Salem. A proud veteran, Don was a corporal in the U.S. Army and served in Korea as a supply specialist in the motor pool.
He met the love of his life, Brenda LaVerne Coffey, when they were introduced by his mother and her sister. Don and Brenda were married on June 20, 1959 and shared 66 wonderful years together. Last summer, they celebrated their 65th anniversary with a vow renewal and a joyful celebration with family and friends
Don's family had a long history of civil service. He followed in their footsteps and began his career as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Reidsville. He later moved to Charlotte as a freight inspector at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and rose to the position of Port Director overseeing the staff of cargo inspectors and working as liaison with import and export companies.
In retirement, Don worked for several years doing home remodeling for friends and family. He also helped Brenda with weekly music classes for InReach, an organization that provides services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Don and Brenda found so much happiness and fulfillment singing, playing instruments, and sharing Tuesday afternoons with the Melody Makers
Over the years, Don was an elder and active member at Covenant Presbyterian Church singing bass in the chancel choir, teaching Sunday School, and performing with the Madrigal singers. He especially enjoyed serving on the property committee and assisting with the youth choir.
The ultimate handyman, there was nothing Don couldn't fix. He loved working with his hands on projects big and small. He added a family room to his home, built a cradle for his grandchildren, and even repaired antique clocks. He was the best "Girl Dad", teaching his three daughters to grill steaks, cook pancakes, change a tire, cut the grass, and wrap the most beautiful packages. His greatest joy was being Bud to his six grandchildren- sharing stories and listening intently as they told him what was going on in their lives. He was their number one fan at their music concerts, sporting events, plays, and dance recitals.
Don is preceded in death by his parents, Roscoe and Lillie Moricle; wife, Brenda Coffey Moricle; and son-in-law, Marc Stanton. He is survived by daughters Darien Moricle, Molli Bucher (Marty), and Julie Stanton-Ludden (Brian); grandchildren Hunter Newton, Dylan Newton, Darien Bucher, Will Bucher, Sean Stanton, and Lily Stanton; brother-in-law Richard Coffey (Jason Charneski); nephew Chip Cardwell (Pattie); niece Bunny Cardwell; and his second family, the staff and residents at MerryWood on Park
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, December 20 at 11:00 am at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 East Morehead Street,
Charlotte, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to InReach at www.inreachnc.org or 4014 Monroe Rd., Bldg. 4, Suite 170,
