William J "Bill" Murray Jr

William J Murray, Jr. (Bill) passed away early Saturday morning, February 28, 2026, exactly one week after celebrating his 94th birthday with his family and friends. Bill will be reunited with his beloved wife, Audrey.

Born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1932, Bill became a Marine (Semper Fi) at the age of seventeen. He served in the Korean War, ending his service with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant. Bill returned to Providence and served as a policeman for 20 years, retiring as a Lieutenant. He then worked at the Women & Infants Hospital in Providence as Director of Administrative Services. He and his wife, Audrey, retired to Florida in 1984. Bill was a member of the Providence Police Association, National Safety Council where he taught Defensive Driving Classes as well as teaching Driver Safety classes for AARP.

Bill met the love of his life, Audrey, while being stationed in Ceylon during his service in the Marines. They married in 1955 in Providence and together had seven children. They were married for 54 years before her passing in 2009. He is predeceased by his premature twins Stephen and Neil, his eldest son Billy, and his wife Audrey. He is survived by his children, Scott (Dahlia), Gigi, Laure (Daryl) and Kerry (Tom), his grandchildren, Ashley (Timmy), David, Alexis (Andrew), Liam, Lucas, Sydney, Ariana, and Domenic, and great grandchildren, Alayna, Evelyn, Audrey and Silas.

Bill was a Marian devotee and parishioner at St. Matthew's Catholic Church where he attended Tuesday morning mass and novena ever since his wife passed in 2009. Until a few days before he passed, Bill walked two miles at 530 each morning and was a member of the YoYo's bowling team at Seminole Lanes for the past sixteen years. Bill loved this social time on Wednesdays and always tried to better his average. Bill will be remembered for his humor, his ability to make friends in unlikely places, his love of soaking up the Florida sun, his penchant for yard work, his years of service, and for the love he showed his wife, family, and country. His life was long and full until the very end, and we cherish our memories with him.
