William "Bill" Lee Nelson, age 94 of Indianapolis passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 18, 2025 at his home.

Bill was born on April 25, 1931 in Evansville, Indiana to Sherman Lee Nelson and Emma May (Dorsey) Nelson.

Bill grew up on the Southside of Indy.  He joined the Army at the age of 16 and served in Germany 933rd Field Artillery Battalion of the 31st Infantry Division.

Throughout his professional career he worked as a machinist for Chrysler automotive, retiring after 31 years.  

He was a member of the UAW, former Member of the Speedway Moose and American Legion Post 64 as well as the VFW Post 908.

He greatly enjoyed dining out with family and friends.

Bill is survived by his daughter Debra Greene, and his sister Mary Ann Freeman.

His grandchildren: Cherish "Chuckles" (husband Jeff) Bennington, Angela Nelson, Michael Nelson, and Lisa Marie (husband Aaron) Rowley.

He is also survived by several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and relatives.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mary Frances (Worthington) Nelson, son Michael Nelson, sister Edith Reed and brother Sherman Lee Nelson, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Floral Park Funeral Center, located at 425 N. Holt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46222.

His funeral service will follow at 7:00 PM. Army military honors will be accorded.  Rev. Todd Bailey will officiate the service.

Burial will be private at Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis.
