William Franklin Newlin, age 92, of Hooks, TX, passed away February 20th. He was born January 8th, 1933 in Paoli, IN. William was a beloved son, sibling, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
William joined the Air Force in 1952 at the age of 19 and while stationed at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, he meet his beloved wife, Ester and they were married for 66 years. While in the Air Force he spent time in Guam and served a year in the Vietnam. His family had the opportunity to live in many places during his 21 years in the service. After retiring from the AF he worked at Red River Army Depot for 20 years. Once he retired at age 55 he enjoyed working a variety of odd jobs as well as driving an ice cream truck and investing in real estate.
Some of his interests included fishing, camping, woodworking and attending car and airshows. Riding motorcycles with the Gold Wing Chapter and Midlife Cycles was something he enjoyed. He had a love for dogs and they were always a part of his family.
William is survived by his son Robert Newlin and his 2 daughters, Linda Perkins and Sandy Williams, his 5 grandchildren Justin Newlin, Casey Simpson, Ashley Neugebauer, Matthew Perkins and Kristin Zuckerman. He also was blessed with 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ester and daughter Karen Dyer.
The funeral will be held at Bates Rolf Funeral Home in New Boston, TX at 2pm Saturday, March 1st. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to hospiceoftexarkana.org or the Wounded Veterans Charity at wwfs.org.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. And we would also like to give a special thanks for all of his caregivers.
