William A. Oswald, 89, Oxford, CT, died Saturday, December 14, 2024, peacefully at home with family by his side. He was born February 27, 1935, in Kewaunee, Wisconsin to the late Louis and Anna (Bouda) Oswald. He married Judith M. Smith on September 7, 1963, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kewaunee, Wisconsin. Bill grew up in Chicago and graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Academy (1949), St. Patrick High School (1953) and the Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering (1957). He served as a Specialist 4th Class in the United States Army Reserve (USAR) Artillery Corps (1958-1960). Bill worked at General Dynamics/Stromberg-Carlson, Rochester, NY; ITT Advanced Technology Center, Shelton, CT; and IPC Information Systems, Inc., New York, NY. He earned six United States patents in the field of telecommunications while at Stromberg-Carlson. He retired in 1997 and was a lifetime member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. After his retirement he spent time with his family, traveling, wood working, computer programming, and solving sudoku puzzles.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Judith; a son, Michael Oswald (Karolina Strehlenert), of Sweden and a daughter, Alison Oswald (Neal Walters) and two granddaughters Clare Walters and Veronica Walters, of Rockville, Maryland; a sister Patricia Zuege of Kewaunee, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Beverly Specht and one brother Thomas Oswald. He was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Oxford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.
