Robert Higgins Obituary

Robert G. (Pinky) Higgins
Robert G. (Pinky) Higgins, age 93, of Stratford, the beloved husband of the late Joyce C. Higgins, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home. Born on October 13, 1931, in Bridgeport, son of the late Francis and Rhena Ruth (Sawyer) Higgins. Pinky, as he was fondly known to family and friends, lived a life full of love and laughter, leaving a lasting imprint on all who knew him.
Pinky enjoyed a fulfilling career, dedicating 30 years to the United States Postal Service. After his retirement from the post office, he continued to share his bright spirit for many years as a driver for Airborne Express/DHL, before finally trading in his work shoes for a well-deserved retirement. He loved life's simple pleasures, especially spending sunny days by the pool with his beloved grandchildren, who lovingly called him Papa. An avid golfer and a devoted NY Mets and Detroit Lions fan, Pinky embraced the joys of sports and sunny afternoons, enjoying a cold one, and always had a smile to share and a joke to tell.
Pinky was proud of his big Irish family and Irish Heritage, traits he shared and celebrated with his late wife, Joyce. Their love story is a testament to the warmth and family values he held dear. He cherished the good times, spent listening to the unmistakable sounds of Louie Prima. He served with pride in the U.S. Navy, during the Korean War, embodying the spirit and dedication of a true patriot.
Pinky is survived by his beloved children, Margaret (Peggy) Goebel of Little River, SC, Robin D'Andrea and her husband Wayne of Milford, Rhena Higgins of Trumbull, Robert "Bobby" Higgins and his wife Nancy of Wallingford, and Raymond (Wheezer) Higgins and his wife Courtney of Milford, 20 loving grandchildren and 12 cherished great-grandchildren, who will carry on his legacy with love and fond remembrance. He is also survived by his sisters, Marcia Volturno of Naples, FL, and Barabara Tardiff of Shelton, and several cousins.
In keeping with Pinky's wishes, there will be no calling hours.
Pinky, you will be missed more than words can say, but we will carry you in our hearts forever. Rest easy, Papa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pinky's memory to The Raymond T. Goldbach VFW Post #9460, 302 Veterans' Blvd., Stratford, CT 06615.

May God Bless Robert.
"Pinky" Higgins was my Baseball coach when I played American Legion Baseball in 1968 to 1970. American Legion Post 177, Old Town Rd., Bpt. He was always a gentleman and had the respect of all our team mates. Reading his obit. brought me back to my teenage years. May our lord give him his rightful place in heaven.
