William Picken Obituary

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL - William Forrest Picken, a dedicated lieutenant police officer and entrepreneur, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center. Born on August 6, 1950, in Hanover, New Hampshire, Bill led a life characterized by adventurism, kindness and generosity, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he encountered.

Bill proudly served in the United States Air Force before embarking on a 15-year career as a Police Lieutenant with the Enfield and Cannan Police Departments in New Hampshire. His commitment to public service was not limited to law enforcement; he later transitioned into entrepreneurship, establishing a small engine business, and engaging in health care products and equipment sales, showcasing his versatility and dedication to the community.

An accomplished licensed private pilot, Bill was a proud member of the Experimental Aviation Association, where he shared his passion for flying and the joys of all types of aviation, from single engine planes to aerobatic planes, ultralights, and RC planes. He built several experimental planes and maintained the planes he owned. He generously shared his love of flying with young and old. He introduced flying to anyone interested, often giving a young enthusiast their very first private plane ride. His enthusiasm for flying lent him to guide other flying enthusiasts in their desire to learn how to fly. His desire to give back to others and his spirit of adventure endeared him to all who knew him.

Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending endless hours with family and friends in the woods. His hunting ranged from VT and NH to South Dakota and Wyoming. He was a mentor to many young men, sharing his love of flying and the outdoors.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Dr. Noreen Picken; his brother, Norman "Buzzy" Picken, and his wife, Linda; and his sister, Saundra Koloski as well as many loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Picken and Beatrice Wheeler Picken; his brother, Robert Picken; and his sisters, Norma McClellan and Thelma Johnson.

No services are planned. His legacy will live on through his family and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime. Bill will be greatly missed but fondly remembered for his kind nature and unwavering dedication to his family and community.
