William R. "Bill" Baumgartner Obituary

Visit the M.P. Murphy & Associates Funeral Directors - Boulder website to view the full obituary.

William R. “Bill” Baumgartner, 80, of Nederland, passed away on Sept. 1, 2025. He was born in Missouri on Dec. 26, 1944, to William A. and Loretta J. Baumgartner.

After serving in the U.S. Army, Bill attended Red Rocks Community College and worked as a machinist at Rocky Flats nuclear facility. He became more widely known in the Nederland community, working at ACE Hardware, and driving a school bus for the Boulder Valley School District. He went on to serve initially as a volunteer firefighter, followed by nearly 20 years as a Fire Mechanic with the Nederland Fire Department.

Bill was known for his wonderful cooking and dedication to local events such as the Community Thanksgiving Potluck. Even after leaving the Nederland Fire Department, ever rooted to the community, Bill spent a large part of his time volunteering with the Nederland Food Pantry. He was a dedicated cat owner, both enjoying their company, but equally concerned when matters of feline health occurred.

Bill had a wide circle of friends, and his kindness and jovial smile are to be remembered.

The Nederland Food Pantry (196 W 1st St, Nederland, CO 80466) will hold a gathering to memorialize Bill and his contributions on the weekend of Oct. 11, 2025.

Graveside services, Thurs. Oct. 16th, 2:30 PM at Staging Area White (B), at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236, military honors provided by the U.S. Army.

Contributions; Nederland Food Pantry or The Humane Society of Boulder County.
