William Riley Racette-Gossen, a cherished son, brother, partner, and friend, was born on May 29, 1996, in Calgary, Alberta. He passed away on August 15, 2025, at the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
William's journey through life was marked not only by his intelligence but also by his deep understanding of people. He had a remarkable ability to connect with others, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he encountered. Known for his unique hairstyles and distinctive fashion sense, William had a charming personality that garnered him much popularity (most notably amongst the ladies), a testament to his engaging personality. He had a big heart, loving deeply and intently, which resonated with each person he met.
Born at Rocky View Hospital at 8 lbs, 3 oz, William was described from a young age as a big boy full of potential and spirit. Throughout his life, he faced significant challenges, wrestling with addictions and mental health issues. However, he confronted these difficulties with resilience, always surrounded by the unwavering support of his family and close friends who loved him immensely.
William is survived by his mother, Bernice Racette; his father, Darren Gossen, of whom he was fortunate enough to make amends for past deeds prior to his passing; maternal grandfather, Richard St. Jacques; maternal grandmother, Gail (Neil) McNeil; paternal grandparents, Roy (Carol) Gossen; and his loving siblings: Kirsty Racette, Courtney Racette, Duniya Ismail, and Hassan Ismail. He is also remembered fondly by his partner, Santana Rain, and family both near and far. A special place remains for his aunt, Terry Gossen, who remained by his side while he fought his final battle in the hospital.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Chelsea Marie Racette; paternal grandparents, Roy (Dorothy) Gossen; great-grandparents; his best friend, Shakiel; his unborn daughter, Serenity Marie; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and close friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
Those who wish to pay their respects are invited to join the family at a burial service for William to be held at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery (243208 Garden Rd, Calgary, AB) on August 20, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM.
William's legacy of love, resilience, and connection will continue to inspire those who knew him. His journey may have been fraught with trials, but his spirit and essence will forever remain a bright light for his family and loved ones.
Rest in peace Bom Bom.
Until we meet again on the other side.
