Mr. William Michael "Mike" Rider, age 76, and Nancy C. (Tinsley) Rider, age 73, of Vevay, Indiana, passed away within days of each other in July 2025. Married for nearly 44 years, their life together was a testament of love, faith, and devotion. Mike entered this life on January 12, 1949 in Danville, Kentucky and was the son of the late Elbert and Mary Jane (Murphy) Rider. Mike graduated in 1967 from Gallatin County High School and was inducted into the United States Army on February 12, 1968 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Parachutist Badge, Army Commendation Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge. He served in the Vietnam War and was transferred to the reserves on February 11, 1971 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 5th Class on February 4, 1974. Nancy was born on December 12, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert Edward Tinsley and Mildred Marie (Hawkins) Tinsley Gray. Nancy graduated in 1970 from Decatur Central High School. Mike and Nancy were united in marriage on June 28, 1981 in Vevay, Indiana and together raised their daughters, Stefanie and Tifanie. In 1993, Nancy received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Ivy Tech in Madison, Indiana. Mike was employed in construction for several years where he worked on roadways and bridges. He was later employed for Rotary Lift in Madison, Indiana, retiring in 2011, after 27 years of service. Nancy worked as an LPN for the Madison State Hospital, from 2006-2015. She was later employed as a cook for the Jefferson County School Corporation for a few years. Mike was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and enjoyed singing, playing guitar, hunting, and watching NASCAR and UK basketball. Nancy enjoyed tennis, riding horses, working in their yard and gardening. Together they loved tending to their animals and spending time with their girls. Nancy passed away at 1:10 p.m., Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at their home in Vevay and Mike passed away at 10:09 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2025, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky.
They are survived by their daughters, Stefanie Rider of Greenwood, IN, and Tifanie Rider of Muncie, IN; Mike's sister and brother, Kathy Rider and Mitch Rider and his wife, Jolene all of Florence, KY; Nancy's sisters, Katie Regensburger of Madison, IN, and Judy Sanford and her husband, Jim of Fillmore, IN, and their nieces and nephews.
They were preceded in death by their parents and brother-in-law, Robert Matthew "Bob" Regensburger.
Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Memorial Services and Full Military Rites will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana 47043.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), or Keeping Pace Cancer Fund. Cards are available at the funeral home or online at www.haskellandmorrison.com
