William Eugene "Gene" Roberson, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Lumber City, Georgia, on January 2, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on May 15, 1936, in
Macon, Georgia, to the late Jimmy and Nan Roberson.
A funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home on Monday, January 5, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Stacy Stone and Rev. Jody Yancey officiating. He is survived by his devoted sons, Gary Roberson (Kathy) of Juliette, and Greg Roberson (Rachel) of Glendale, Arizona. Gene's legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren, Misty White (Manny), Trey Roberson (Jade), Michael Roberson (Priyanka), David Morris (Krissie), and Michelle Jackson (Harley). Each of them carries a piece of Gene's spirit and will continue to honor his memory through their own lives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Joiner Roberson, his grandson, Dale Roberson and his brother, James E. Roberson.
After many fruitful years at Georgia Power, Gene retired only to continue his commitment to the workforce at Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), where his work ethic and camaraderie were highly valued. His professional life was a testament to his belief in the importance of contributing to his community and providing for his beloved family.
A 32nd degree Mason, Gene dedicated 60 years to the brotherhood, exemplifying the principles of Freemasonry in his daily life. His commitment to service was further demonstrated through his involvement in coaching little league baseball and football in Telfair County, where he became a mentor and role model to countless young athletes. Gene's passion for sports was also evident in his personal life as an avid golfer, a pastime he pursued with the same enthusiasm and vigor as his coaching. Gene's love for the outdoors was unmistakable. He found solace and excitement in hunting and fishing, activities that not only brought him closer to nature but also provided cherished moments with family and friends.
As we bid farewell to William Eugene "Gene" Roberson, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His story does not end here, for in our hearts and memories, Gene's warmth and wisdom will endure forever.
