William Salleng, age 81 of Horse Cave passed away Sunday, December 1, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family. He enjoyed woodworking, carving and making furniture, leather crafting, he rode horses and read books, he watched westerns and Ridiculousness. His leather work earned him blue ribbons at fairs.His family was first and foremost and he was instantly cheered up when they were around. One of his favorite things to do was to make personal Christmas gifts for them. He was a man of integrity and if he said it he meant it. He always loved a good joke. He didn't quite understand that children don’t always understand sarcasm.
He was the son of the late James Abraham Lancer Salleng and the late Bernice Virginia Grimsley Salleng.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Grimsley.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Linda F. Blakeman Salleng; three children, Craig Salleng, Horse Cave, KY, Kenneth James Salleng, Nashville, TN, Wade Lancer Salleng and his wife Maryanne, Mt. Washington, KY; a special daughter, Angie Chandler, Bardstown, KY; a fur baby, Woodrow; his nephew David Blakeman Jr. and his wife Jeannine, and their three sons, Ryan (wife Anna) Aaron, Nolan, Louisville, KY also survives.
The family will receive friends from 2:00- 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024 and again from 8:00-10:00 AM CT on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 AM CT on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Brooks Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Mt. Washington.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hosparus of Southern Ky or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
