William Andrew "Andy" Sanders Jr., a beloved husband, father, brother, and educator, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on Wednesday, July 20,1949, in Blakely, Georgia, Andy spent his life dedicated to his faith, family, community, and the field of education.
A lifelong Georgia Bulldogs fan, Andy graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in World History. He spent the early part of his career teaching and coaching football in Rabun County, where he fell in love with the Blue Ridge Mountains and met and married his wife, Earline. They later moved to Calhoun County, where he taught and was the principal of Calhoun County Elementary for many years. He closed out his career as principal of Early County Elementary. Andy was well loved by his students, teachers, and staff. Andy was known for his love of a good story, his quick wit, warm heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of others.
Andy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Earline Cato Sanders, and their two cherished daughters, Mandy Sanders and Christy Sanders. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack Sanders and Barbara Sanders Rodgers, as well as nieces and nephews: David Cato, Jessica Cato, Michael Cato, Robert Cato, Leeland McPhail, Neil Rodgers, Lauren Rodgers, and Nathan Rodgers.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Andrew Sanders Sr. and Marjorie Houston Sanders, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM January 10, 2026, at Blakely First Methodist Church to honor Andy's memory and the profound impact he had on those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Andy's generous spirit and commitment to helping others.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home.
Andy will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the many students whose lives he touched.
