William James Scheier, 74, of West Chester, PA and formerly of Springfield, PA, passed away on February 18, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was born on June 30, 1951, in Chester, Pennsylvania, to the late William M. Scheier and Miriam L. (Young) Scheier.
A 1969 graduate of Collingdale High School, Bill was a standout pitcher and first baseman, earning a tryout with the Philadelphia Phillies that same year. He later spent many years coaching with the Springfield Athletic Association, sharing his love of sports with local youth. Bill also enjoyed ice hockey, bowling and playing golf – a lifelong hobby that brought him great happiness. He was especially proud of achieving two holes-in-one.
Professionally, Bill built a remarkable 47-year career in the banking industry before retiring in 2017.
Bill was preceded in death by his infant brother, William John Scheier. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Jeanne (Barkel) Scheier; his sons, William Jr. (Jacqueline) and Matthew Scheier; and his beloved grandchildren—Payton, Brayden, and Cassidy—who brought him endless joy and pride. He is also survived by his sister in law Lynn Barkel; his brothers in law Chip Barkel and the late Craig Pagden (Marie); and his nieces and nephews Debra Whilden (Leon), Lisa Pagden, Cathy DiAntonio (Derek), and Eric Whilden. Bill was also fortunate to share his life with many wonderful cousins and friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Springfield Athletic Association, PO Box 168 Springfield, PA 19064, in Bill’s memory.
