William Joseph Seney, 86 of Sioux Falls, SD passed away Sunday October 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Hansen Funeral Home-Vermillion from 5:00-7:00PM. Funeral Service will begin at 10:30AM, Friday, October 27, 2023, at Hansen Funeral Home- Vermillion. Interment with military honors will be at Bluffview Cemetery in Vermillion immediately following the service.
William was born May 20, 1937, to Albert and Lela (Trudeau) Seney. He was raised on the family farm off Hwy 50 in Vermillion. He was a member of the local Saddle Club when he was younger, carrying his passion of training/riding horses throughout his life. He was also an avid member of the Eagles and the boat club as enjoying time with family on the river was important to him.
He met the love of his life and wife of 60 years, Eleanor Nordhagen at the Days of ‘56 in Vermillion. They were married July 31, 1957, in Elk Point, SD. He joined the Air Force in 1958and completed his tour of duty in 1962.
He began his own trucking company with two Freightliners and did long hauls of cattle and hogs to the West Coast and Canada. He sold the trucking company and began working for the Sewage Treatment plant in Vermillion. Over the years he studied and completed all the testing and became the Superintendent of the Sewage Treatment Plant in Hot Springs, SD in 1983. He won multiple awards and recognitions. His biggest award and recognition was by the EPA. He retired from Hot Springs in 2002 and moved to a hobby farm in the Beresford area.
In retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, traveling, and restoring antique farm equipment, some of which he would show in parades. He also found fulfillment in passing on his knowledge of horses to any who visited. He was a truly selfless family man and was loved by so many for being a kind and gentle soul to all.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, his parents Albert and Lela Seney, two sisters Betty GoBell, Joyce Button, a brother David Seney, a granddaughter Amanda Jamison, a great grandson Dakota William Bartling, two nephews Kevin GoBell, Guy Button, a niece Debera GoBell, a great nephew Dustin Seney and a great niece Crystal Button.
Bill will be greatly missed by his daughters Cheryl Chamberlain, Sioux Falls, Laurie (Lonny) Bartling, Marietta OK, Darla (Charlie) Edinger Mitchell, SD, his sister Judy (Harlan) Hanson, and many other family and friends. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, many nieces, and nephews.
