Else Englund

Else Svanholm Host Englund, age 93, of Beresford, SD, passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 24, at Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion, with Pastor Kwen Sanderson and Pastor Martha Atkins officiating.  Burial will be in Bluff View Cemetery, Vermillion.  Visitation will be 5 until 7 PM Thursday, October 23, with a prayer service at 7 PM at Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion.

Else was born May 15, 1932, in Sioux City, IA, to Christiane (Svanholm) and Jeppe Host of rural Burbank, SD.  She grew up on the family farm in the Greenfield area, northeast of Vermillion, SD.  She attended Greenfield country school for eight years, completed high school through a correspondence course, and graduated from the University of South Dakota with a four-year degree in Elementary Education.

She worked as secretary and assistant accountant in the office of the Clay County Superintendent of Schools for 14 years, after which she taught at Ash Creek School for two years before they consolidated.  Else then farmed with her folks for ten years at which time her dad passed away.  She stayed home and cared for her mom until her mom passed away in 1986.

In 1987 she married Orlyn Englund who lived on and farmed his family farm south of Spink, SD, (northwest of Elk Point). She continued living on the farm for several years following Orlyn's death in 2005, before she moved to Beresford, SD.  Else was active in church and community affairs, including Women's Extension Club, and held various offices.  She also served on the St. Dymas Prison Ministry Board and participated in outreach to those incarcerated.

She was preceded in death by her husband Orlyn Englund, parents Christiane (Svanholm) and Jeppe Host, aunt (her mother's sister) Berthine Svanholm, uncle Thomas Host, and other relatives.  She is survived by her Godson Dylan Sykes and numerous friends.  She will be missed by all who knew her.
