William "Rick" Shirley was born on November 28, 1957, in Charleston, South Carolina, to William Dean Shirley and Lucielle Shirley. He passed away on October 8, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Rick lived in Okmulgee for the past ten years, where he became known for his big heart, larger-than-life personality, and the way he never met a stranger. He loved people, especially children, and had a natural gift for making others laugh. His wife often said he reminded her of a salesman-someone who could strike up a conversation with anyone and leave them smiling.

A mechanic by trade and a builder by passion, Rick could fix or create just about anything. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring from Fort Hood after sustaining injuries while serving in Germany, where he bravely jumped from helicopters as part of his duties.

Rick had a soft spot for animals and devoted much of his time to rescuing St. Bernards. His loyal companion, Hercules, was always by his side, following in the footsteps of his beloved Hank, who preceded him in death. Rick also loved to fish and spend time outdoors, finding peace and joy in the simple things in life.

He met the love of his life, Lorna, when they were teenagers. Though life took them down different paths, fate brought them back together in 2010, and they were married in 2013. Their love story was one built on laughter, companionship, and deep affection.

Rick is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Lorna Shirley; his daughter, Theresa Shirley of Texas; his son, William Richard "Billy" Shirley, Jr. of Texas; his brother, Jimmy Shirley of Florida; his best friend, Christopher of Harrah, Oklahoma; and his St. Bernard companion, Hercules.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dean and Lucielle Shirley; and his best St. Bernard companion, Hank.

Rick will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the way he made every person he met feel like an old friend. His legacy of laughter, love, and generosity will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
