William Simkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beach Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. on Oct. 2, 2024.
William Alfred Simkins Jr. was born on November 20, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY to the late William Alfred Simkins Sr. and Cynthia Hutt. After a long and abundant life, he went to sleep peacefully in God's arms on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He served as a member of IREM, North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University's Alumni Association and had various other affiliations.
As one of three children, he received his early education at Boys High School. Upon graduation he pursued a degree in Architectural Engineering at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. During his time NCA&T he played wide receiver and tight end until an injury ended his football career.
After obtaining his degree, he worked in both private and corporate firms as an architect in Greensboro, NC and Richmond, VA. His next endeavors were in the real estate industry and that's when he became a real estate broker and developer. He would go on to develop and manage properties up and down the east coast.
William was a hard worker, and pushed everyone around him to be great. Giving up or using the word "can't" was never an option. He was well versed in all facets of real estate and was always there to give assistance or advice whenever called upon. In addition to being an entrepreneur, he was also a very hands-on family man. He taught his children to play a variety of sports and never missed a game or practice if he could help it. Holidays, vacations and get togethers were always filled with love and laughter. He was also an excellent cook which is something he picked up from his late mother. William adored his family and friends and will always be known as a loving, devoted husband, father and friend.
William was preceded in death by sisters, Cynthia Coleman and Carol Patterson. He is survived by his wife, Mary Simkins; two sons, William Simkins III (Melissa), Leo Simkins (Roxann); two daughters, Mikele Simkins (Jonathan), India Simkins-Vance; twelve grandchildren; three great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
