William J. Smith 87 of Poughkeepsie passed away on Sunday June 8th at St. Lukes Hospital in Newburgh, New York.
William was born in New York City on April 28, 1938. He was the son of the late William A. and the late Beatrice Mauro Smith.
William has been a local resident since 1974, previously from Staten Island.
William was a graduate of Dutchess Community College, and he served in the United States Navy.
William was a retired Corrections Officer who worked at Green Haven Correctional Facility.
William is survived by his son David Smith Sr. of Hyde Park, daughter and son in-law Denise and Scott McMahon of Poughkeepsie, son Daniel Smith of Wappingers, grandchildren David Smith Jr. of Poughkeepsie, Amanda McMahon of Poughkeepsie, Scott McMahon Jr. of Poughkeepsie, brother Larry Lange of New York City.
William was predeceased by his sister Lorraine and brothers Joseph, Frank, and John.
Graveside services will be held with Military Honors at 11am Saturday June 14th at the Wappingers Rural Cemetery Route 9D Poughkeepsie.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603.
