William P. Sniezek, age 75, of Neshannock Twp., passed away the early morning of Sept. 23, 2024, at UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Born Sept. 16, 1949, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Alex and Sophie (Kwolek) Sniezek.
On May 19, 1973, he married his beloved wife of 51 years, Sharon (Hemming) Sniezek. She survives at home.
Bill was a 1967 graduate of New Castle High School. He faithfully served his country, in the United States Army serving from 1969-1970, where he fought in the Vietnam War. Bill graduated from Toledo Meat Cutting School and in doing so, started his career as a meat cutter. He then went on work for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He was a member of the Holy Trinity National Catholic Church. He enjoyed time spent playing slow pitch softball for the Croton Dukes, Iron Dukes, and Polish Falcons Club where he served as past president for several years.
Running the Washington DC and Pittsburgh Marathons, coaching the 8th Ward Little League team to victory in 1989 making them division champs, working outside, and playing pool, were some of his fondest moments. What gave Bill the most joy in life was spending time with his family, even becoming an officiant for his niece Brandi and her husband Tom Lynch's wedding. Most of all, he treasured the times he spent with his granddaughter, Sara, taking her out for milkshakes.
In addition to his wife, Bill is survived by one son, Scott Sniezek of New Castle, PA; one brother, Marion "Mertz" (Karen) Sniezek of Turlock, CA; two sisters, Elizabeth (Richard) Remler of Ellwood City, PA, and Barbara (Jim) Schiek of New Wilmington, PA; mother-in-law, Clara Hemming; sister-in-law, Diane (Joe) Frengel of New Castle, PA; brother-in-law, William "Berf" Hemming (Donna Olin); one granddaughter, Sara Sniezek; his beloved dog "Buddy" and several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents Bill was preceded in death by one son William "Billy" Sniezek who passed in 1993 and his father-in-law William Hemming who passed in 2017.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 27th from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM and Sat. Sept. 28th from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle.
A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Sat. Sept. 28th, immediately following visitation, at 11:00 AM with FR. John Rencewicz of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church, officiating.
Burial will be at St. Phillip and James Cemetery.
