William A. Spengler, 96, formerly of Boiling Springs, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle.
Born on December 29, 1928, in Northampton, PA, he was the son of the late George and Irene (Young) Spengler, and he was the widower of Esther Mae (Widener) Spengler.
Bill was a graduate of Northampton High School. He received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University. Bill was proud to have served his country with the Army in Korea during the Korean War. He was a retired insurance underwriter with Aetna. After his retirement from Aetna, he continued working in insurance for both Statesman and PMA.
Bill cherished the family he created with his wife of 63 years, Esther. He loved spending time with his three sons and, later in life, with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His care and concern for his family was demonstrated by his willingness to accept job transfers in order to provide a better life for his family. His “happy place was at a stream fly fishing for trout and enjoying the beauty of nature. His creativity came out in the designing and tying of trout flies and testing their success in the streams. He was a member of the Yellow Breeches Anglers. Bill liked visiting with all the trout fishermen and even created a journal with their photos and stories. He played golf, baseball, and basketball and sparked his sons’ interest in sports. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church in Carlisle.
After missing her terribly for the past three and a half years, he is now reunited with his beloved wife, Esther.
Bill is survived by three sons, Barry D. Spengler and his wife Georgine, of Lititz, PA, William G. Spengler and his wife Phyllis, of Carlisle, PA, and Robert B. Spengler and his wife Kimberly, of Sinking Spring, PA, a brother, Bruce Spengler and his wife Nancy, of Stanwood, MI, four grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Spengler, a sister, Doris Souilliard, and his cousin, Lee Schisler.
All funeral services will be private, and burial in Rolling Green Cemetery, Camp Hill, PA will be handled at the convenience of the family. Myers-Baker Funeral & Cremation Services, Camp Hill, has been entrusted with funeral arrangements.
