William St. James Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 26 to Mar. 30, 2024.
William (Andy) Andrew St. James, 85, a longtime resident of Holliston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Harbor Point at Centerville after a brief illness. Born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts he was the son of William B. St. James and Eleanor (Gannon) St. James. Andy married the love of his life, Andrea (Andie), in 1965 and celebrated 54 years of marriage until her death in 2019. Andy's devotion to her was inspirational as he was her sole caregiver for many years during her prolonged struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Following in his father's footsteps, he attended the College of the Holy Cross and participated in the naval ROTC program. After graduation, he served his country with distinction in the United States Navy on the USS Muliphen.

A long career in Ford Motor Company took the family from Maine to Michigan, finally settling for good in Holliston, Massachusetts where they became surrounded by a large group of friends who later became family. Andy loved to travel across New England with Andie, host gatherings of their extended group of friends and cheer on the Boston Red Sox in both winning and losing years. He and Andie were active parishioners and served as Eucharistic ministers at St. Mary's Church and also as election officials in Holliston, among many other civic duties.

He leaves his children, Nancy Kirshe and her husband, Scott of Bradenton, FL; Grandsons Sean Kirshe and his fiancée Madeline Monteihl of the Rota, Spain (United States Navy); Bryan Kirshe and his wife Taylor of Henderson, Nevada; Jill Labdon and her husband, Justin and their daughters, Haley and Zoe of Brewster, MA, and Jennifer Picarillo and her husband, Alan and their sons, Matthew and William, of Cape Elizabeth, Maine.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1st from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Chesmore Funeral Home of Holliston, 854 Washington St. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2nd at 9:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church of Holliston. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, alz.org

Andy was an altar boy a few years ahead of me at Sacred Heart Church Pittsfield. We met on occasion at Holy Cross Worcester where he was always kind to an underclassman. We would share Pittsfield memories. Bill McGurk. HC '63

An adult lifetime with this special man bring so many memories. Loved him like a brother. It was a pleasure to blend our families and watch you grow up. Andy will be missed but he´s now with Andie and the Lord. Love to you all.

Andy was highly principled while conducting himself with "Honor, Duty, Family, Country, and Ford". Fittingly, Andy was nicknamed by John Kennedy at our office meetings as "The Commodore".

May your rest in the peace of Christ and with Andie.

To Nancy, Jill, Jennifer and Families,

Heartfelt condolences being sent in the passing of your Dad and Grandpa. Andy was the Market Representation Manager and my boss for a number of years. I have fond memories of his attention to detail on all contracts and franchise agreements. He kept meticulous records and always had the time to explain the process. He was so proud of his family, especially his grand children, when he would share their accomplishments at our retiree luncheons. His devotion to his wife, Andie was heartwarming. He had a quick wit and delivered many of his epic poems at Christmas and Farewell parties. He was a great man who will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace knowing "job well done"!
