William "Bill" Stap, 92, of Montgomery NY passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. Bill was born April 27, 1932 in Oakland NJ to John and Alice (Maas) Stap and was raised in Washingtonville NY. Bill grew up on a dairy farm and eventually owned and operated his own farm. After farming, he became a builder and built and renovated many houses in the area. Upon retirement, his love of woodworking continued in his home workshop.
He married his only love, Claire Vandersea, on March 14, 1952. They raised their children in Searsville, NY: Mark Stap (Darlene), Nancy Wilson, Jim Stap (Kerry), Robert Stap (Stacey), Joan Mossbarger (Dave), and Joyce Amels (Jim).
He was predeceased by his brother John Stap, of Maryland; his sister Janet Terhune, of New Jersey; his son John Stap and his granddaughter Melissa Wilson. He is survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday January 12, 2025, 2pm-5pm, at Millspaugh Funeral Home, 22 Bank St., Walden, NY 12586.
The funeral will be held Monday January 13, 2025 at 11:30am at Goshen Christian Reformed Church, where Bill was a longtime member and organist, 2440 State Route 17A, Goshen, NY 10924.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Goshen Christian Reformed Church in his memory.
