William 'Bill' Steinmetz, 94, died September 6, 2025 at his home in Hutchinson. He was born March 4, 1931, in Hutchinson, to Harold and Pearl Frances (Landis) Steinmetz.

Bill graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1949. Shortly after graduation, he joined the United States Army. Bill worked as a mail carrier for many years, eventually retiring in the 1980's.

In prior years, Bill was an avid radio control plane flyer and enjoyed spending time with his friends from Hutch Bunch RC Club, in which he was a member. After his retirement, Bill spent many years farming his 80 acres of farm ground south of town. Throughout his life, he was also a dedicated vegetable gardener. He loved the Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church and church related activities, including singing in the choir.

On July 14, 1955, he married Shirley Jean Shuman, in Hutchinson. They shared over 70 years of marriage.

Bill is survived by: his loving wife, Shirley Steinmetz of Hutchinson; children, Mike Steinmetz of Hutchinson, Joni Vines of Hutchinson, and Lori (Richard) Green of Olathe; grandchildren, Chrystal Dobrzyn, Curtis Steinmetz, and Timothy Steinmetz; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Steinmetz.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Ed; and sister, Kathaleen.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Pleasant View Cemetery at Darlow, with Reverend Richard Brooks officiating. Friends may sign his memorial book from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
