William Henry Thomas, Jr., 87, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in
Southaven, MS. He leaves a legacy of strength, dedication, and devotion to family. A hard-working and determined man, Bill was known for his strong will and steady character. He was a true "man's man," admired for his work ethic, reliability, and the pride he took in everything he did.
Above all else, Bill loved his family. He was a devoted husband, of over 50 years, to his beloved wife, Mary Ann. Their long lasting bond was a source of admiration to all who knew them. His commitment to providing, protecting, and loving his family never wavered.
Bill found joy in working with his hands and took great pride in woodworking, creating pieces that reflected his patience and craftsmanship.
Bill was known in his younger years for his energy, strength, and love of staying active. He maintained excellent health and enjoyed bowling, working out, and running. As a preteen, he took pride in his paper route, a responsibility he truly enjoyed. He also had a deep love for sports and eagerly played every sport available to him, showing enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination from an early age. He also embraced life's lighter moments, enjoying disco dancing and the fun and energy of that era.
A loyal sports fan, Bill was a proud supporter of Grizzly basketball and followed the team with enthusiasm and pride.
Bill will be remembered as a strong, loving, and steadfast presence-someone who lived with purpose and left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a celebration of life following at 1:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven (626 Star Landing Road East,
Southaven, MS 38672). Tyrone Johnson will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Southaven is in charge of arrangements.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Thomas of
Southaven, MS; his two sons, Mark Anthony Thomas of Memphis and Michael Todd Thomas of Marion, AR; his three daughters, Lisa Michelle (Tyrone) Johnson of Bartlett, TN and Elizabeth Renee (Charles) Mason of Atoka, TN, Suzette (Tom) Shoffner of Southaven; his four grandsons, Marlon (Karina) Quarles, Tyrone Johnson, Jr., Reese Harwell and Michael Mason; his two granddaughters, Karly (Ben) Lakey and Pamela Michelle Boness; his great-granddaughters, Lilith Harwell, Nova Ren Quarles, Opal Boness, Kyiel Anthony Johnson, and Iyah Normani Johnson; his great grandsons, Xavier Harwell, Noah Bonness Brooks, and Thomas Mason; his sister, Betty Joy (Lanny) Murphree of Cordova; his sister-in-law, Janice Hart of Southaven; his special friend, Vicki Legue; and many beloved friends and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Henry, Sr., and Cleo Belew Thomas.
