William "Tom" Thomas Tighe was born November 28, 1939 in Gladden, Missouri. He was born to Dee and Tillie (Prater) Tighe. Tom grew up and attended school in Dent County, Missouri.
Tom was united in marriage December 14, 1957 to the love of his life, Virginia Louese Barton. They meant the world to each other and created many lasting memories together. Tom was a devoted husband and loved and cared for Virginia until her passing November 5, 2016.
Tom and Virginia were blessed with three daughters: Kathryn, Belinda, and Rhonda. A dedicated father, he cherished and took great pride in supporting his daughters. Tom treasured his grandchildren and adored his great-grandchildren. Making memories with his family was something he valued most.
Tom was a hardworking man and a proud provider for his family. He started his working career as a cord wood cutter. He later worked as a miner with Ozark Lead Mines and worked with Jerry Lough for many years. In his spare time, Tom liked spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing his bounty with others.
Tom lived a life full of dedication to the Lord. He became a Deacon in 1972 and faithfully served at the Salem United Baptist Church for forty-two years. Tom was a member of Macedonia United Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for the past nine years. He had a servant's heart with a kind and gentle spirit. Tom enjoyed reading and studying his Bible and taught Sunday School for many years.
Tom entered into eternal rest February 28, 2023 in
Salem, Missouri at the age of eighty-three years. He is survived by his loving daughters: Kathryn Akins and husband Michael of
Salem, MO and Belinda Robbins and husband Darrell; siblings: Roy Tighe and wife Helen of
Salem, MO, Edna Whitaker of
Salem, MO, and Geanie Wisdom and husband Ted of
Salem, MO; grandchildren: Jason Akins and wife Amanda, Joshua Robbins and wife Christine, and Chris Robbins and wife Brittany; granddaughter-in-law: Stephanie Akins; great-grandchildren: Ashley, Ty, Will, Lucas, Shawn, Noah, Rylee, Emmett, Madeleine, and Jacob; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Preceding him in death were his loving wife of fifty-nine years: Virginia Tighe; daughter: Rhonda Tighe, grandson: Adam Akins; and his parents: Dee and Tillie Tighe.
Tom leaves behind a lasting legacy of being kind, loving, compassionate, and selfless. His memories will live on in those who loved him most. Tom will be forever missed.
Funeral Services for William "Tom" Thomas Tighe were held Saturday, March 4, 2023 in the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel with Pastor Heath Garrison and Josh Robbins officiating. Song selections played were "Goodness of God" and "Amazing Grace". Serving as Pallbearers were Jason Akins, Josh Robbins, Chris Robbins, Ty Akins, Will Akins, and Noah Robbins. Honorary Pallbearers were Emmett Robbins, Shawn Akins, Lucas Akins, Ashley Akins, Rylee Robbins, Madeleine Robbins, and Jacob Robbins. Burial was in the Round Pond Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Wilson Mortuary of
Salem, Missouri.
Memorial Contributions may be made in memory of Tom Tighe to the Macedonia United Baptist Church and left at Wilson Mortuary. Memorial Envelopes will be available.
