Savannah, GA William H. Ulmer, age 87, died Saturday, April 13, 2024. Born in Mineola, New York, he was the son of the late Sara and Lewis W. Ulmer. Bill was an executive with the Procter & Gamble Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Following retirement, he and his wife, Patty, moved to The Landings on Skidaway Island, Georgia, and he had been a full-time resident there since 1992. He spent many years coaching youth baseball and was an avid fly fisherman. One of his fondest memories was when he made a solo four-wheel drive circumnavigation of the perimeter of the continent of Australia in 2001. He met and maintained lasting friendships with many great "Aussie Mates"!
Bill was a graduate of East Aurora (NY) High School and Michigan State University. He was involved in many church, community, and charitable activities throughout his life. In retirement, he served on the Board of Governors of the Bethesda Academy in Savannah for many years, the Advisory Board of the Savannah Economic Development Authority, and numerous activities and positions with the Skidaway Island United Methodist Church. He was also a member of The Landings Club, and a past member of their Board of Governors, as well as a Board member of the Landings Military Family Relief Fund, and an honorary Night Stalker, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne).
Preceding him in death was his beloved wife, Patricia Dodd Ulmer, his son, Douglas William Ulmer, and his sister, Sally Lundell. He is survived by his children Robert Ulmer of Issaquah, Washington and Sally (Eugene) Anglim of Rochester Hills, Michigan as well as 8 grandchildren Allison (Christopher) Amason, Joseph Anglim, Thomas Anglim, Rhys Ulmer, Jackson Ulmer, Zachary Ulmer, Jake Anglim, and Kaleigh Anglim.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 10:00 am at the Skidaway Island Methodist Church with the Reverend Michelle Johnson and the Reverend James W. Giddens officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to: The Skidaway Island Methodist Church, Savannah, GA; The Bethesda Academy, Savannah, GA; or The Landings Military Family Relief Fund, Savannah, GA.
