William F. Vanderlip, a loving father and (great) grandfather of South Windsor, CT, passed away on Saturday, December 20, 2025. Bill was born on June 4, 1931, in Elmira, NY, to Harry and Florence (Derry) Vanderlip.
Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a retired Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Niagara Falls, as well as later in life became an electrician's apprentice. Beyond his career, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, who believed in hard work and providing for his family. He left behind a vast library of books and spent many years researching his paternal and maternal genealogy, producing three books. He was also an avid collector of antiques.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Mary (Joel) Gornbein and Margaret O'Neil; his grandchildren, Sarah Gornbein, Jake (Keili) Gornbein, Emma (Ryan Shumann) O'Neil, Connor O'Neil, Will and Grace Vanderlip; his great grandchildren, Vander, Vale and Rawley Gornbein, Shivonne Schumann; his former wife and friend, Peg Vanderlip; and son-in-law, Tom O'Neil. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, William F. Vanderlip, Jr.
At the request of his family, funeral services will be held privately at a later date. Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home, in Vernon, are in care of his arrangements.
