William David “Cheech” Violano, of Oxford, passed away peacefully Sunday morning June 15, 2025 (Father’s Day), in Seymour.
William, the son of John and Wilhelmina (DeTullio) Violano, was born Oct 13, 1934 in Derby CT. He graduated from Seymour High School in 1953 and soon after enlisted in the Army serving in Greenland during the Korean War. Upon his return from the service, he settled into work as a roofer and did this until his retirement. He joined the Civil Defense and trained as a scuba diver doing under-ice rescues. He was a volunteer with the Quaker Farms Fire Co for many years as a fire fighter and was Captain in 1971. He coached little league for 9 years and loved to camp and hike, often at Hammonasset State Park. He enjoyed attending country fairs to watch the tractor and oxen pulls as well as going to tag sales on the weekends. He got his exercise at home by cutting firewood used to heat the home that he built with the help of family and friends. He was active at Living Springs Christian Fellowship, where he and his wife hosted prayer meetings in their home for over 40 years. A spare bedroom was always open, hosting many visiting missionaries, Pastors and singing groups from various states and all over the world.
William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen, his Children: Diane Lucas, Kim (Tom) Wargo and Steven Violano, daughter-in-law, Beth Violano. Siblings: Dominic (Pat) Violano, Robert (Joyce) Violano, Sister Ruth Ann Pisani. Also, Brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard and Ruth Chandler, Wendel and Edith Seyler Jr. Grand Children: Angela Borrelli, Elizabeth (Eric) Souza, Melissa (Louis) Valentino, David Borrelli, Jennifer (Rich) Culver, Joanna Lucas, Chase Violano, Ryan DiCamillo (Liliana). 11 Great Grand Children, 2 great great grandchildren, 25 Nieces & nephews and many lifelong friends.
William was predeceased by his in-laws: Wendel & Grace Seyler; Grandson: Brandon Giordano; Siblings: Joe Violano, John Violano Sally Kearney, Margaret Perley; Niece: Cindy Pisani; Nephew David Seyler; and son: William D. Violano Jr.
Receiving hours will be on Monday, June 23rd at from 5-7 pm at Miller-Macari Family Funeral Home, 260 Bank St Seymour CT 06483. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 24th at 10:00 am at Living Springs Christian Fellowship, 141 Great Hill Rd, Seymour CT 06483. There will be no graveside Services.
