Ema Celeste Anacleta Nascimento Tomas, 86, a resident of Seymour, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at her home on January 15th, surrounded by love.
Ema was born on July 10, 1939, in Reguengo de Parada, Caldas da Rainha, Portugal. She was the beloved daughter of Maria Celeste Anacleta and Joaquim Nascimento. Deeply rooted in her Portuguese heritage, Ema carried her traditions, faith, and values with pride throughout her life.
A woman of strong faith, Ema was a devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Fátima Church in Hartford, Connecticut. Her devotion to Our Lady of Fátima remained close to her heart, especially during her cherished visits to Portugal, where she found great joy returning to her homeland and visiting the Shrine of Our Lady of Fátima.
Ema worked for over 25 years as a machine operator at Wiremold Company in West Hartford and also at Mount Sinai Hospital. In 2003, she retired to devote herself fully to what brought her the greatest joy—caring for and spending time with her grandchildren.
She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: baking traditional Portuguese foods and desserts, family gatherings, tending to her garden, cheering for the Portuguese National Soccer Team, and, most of all, sharing time and laughter with her three beloved grandchildren, Brandon, Griffin and Jordon, who were the light of her life.
Ema shared a loving marriage of 61 years with her devoted husband, Jose Tomas, a partnership built on faith, family, and unwavering devotion.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Tomas; her son, Jorge Tomas, and his wife, Donna; her cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Griffin, and Jordon Tomas; her brother, Carlos Nascimento, his wife and dear friend to Ema, Maria Nascimento; and several nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.
She was predeceased by her sister, Leanor Celeste Anacleta Nascimento Horta, and her husband, Jose Horta.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, January 27th, from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at Miller-Macari Funeral Home, 260 Bank Street, Seymour, CT 06483. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, January 28th, at Holy Rosary Church, 10 Fr. Salemi Dr., Ansonia, CT. 06401 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Shelton, CT.
Guided by faith and wrapped in love, She lived her life with quiet grace. With Our Lady of Fátima close to her heart, She now rests in God’s eternal embrace.
