William Joseph Walpole (Bill) born May 15, 1952 in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew and Mary Lou, his brother Thomas, and his brother-in-laws Dr. David Taylor and Jason Fisher. Bill is survived by his wife of fifty years, Kathy Walpole, his children Kristina Mattiello (Matt), Kevin and Stephen Walpole, grandchildren Kevin Frayser, Jacob Litton, Shelby Frayser, Leaffa Schnur, William Walpole, Ani Schnur, and great-grandsons Amare and Dante McDaniels. Bill is survived by his sisters Nancy Hogan (Joe), Mary Lou Kocher (Chris), Linda Taylor, Lisa Fisher, his brothers Robert and David Walpole and many many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Upon graduation from Cathedral H.S. in 1970, Bill followed in his dad’s footsteps and became an IronWorker. He was a member of Union Local #22 for 55 years. He retired in 2012. Bill was a member of Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church and a former longtime member of St. Jude Catholic Church In Indianapolis. He was involved in “This Man is You Christ Renews His Parish” (CRHP). He sang in the choir and was a member of the St. Jude’s Men’s Club. He was very involved in helping the poor in Indianapolis volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul Society. He worked in the main warehouse and the 30th Street food pantry. He truly loved his time there for many years. Bill became involved in missionary work in Ecuador in association with a nonprofit organization in Chicago called “Children Pure of Heart.” Its focus is serving and feeding the poor children in Ecuador. Bill loved his trips there and was blessed to go 3 times before COVID.

Bill was involved in Franklin Township baseball, softball, and boys and girls basketball. He coached, umpired, and refereed.He continued working for Franklin Township Youth Sports for many years after his children were grown. Bill was a licensed official for IHSAA officiating H.S. Girls Softball through Central Indiana.

Bill was deeply devoted to his family. He loved hosting family holiday parties, birthday parties, Euchre and Texas Holdem Tournaments He dearly loved his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Bill and Kathy hosted 5 different exchange students while their children were growing up. These students have become lifetime members of his family.

Bill loved collecting. He enjoyed going to auctions so much that he became a licensed auctioneer. He was an avid numismatist as a very young man and it was his lifelong hobby. He loved passing his passion on to his grandchildren.

In honor of Bill's life, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, June 24 at 9 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church located at 2905 Carson Avenue in Indianapolis. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may gather for visitation on Monday, June 23 from 2 pm to 8 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home 925 East Hanna Avenue, with a rosary service held at 7:30 pm. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society of Indianapolis.
