Susan Stephens, a beloved member of her community, passed away on February 8, 2026, in Avon, Indiana. Born on April 24, 1956, in Champaign, Illinois, Susan brightened the lives of all who knew her throughout her 69 years.
A dedicated family member and a cherished friend, Susan is survived by her husband, James Stephens, and her son, Kevin H. Cole. She held dear the memories and moments shared with her brothers, Gregory and Jeffrey Jern. Susan was also a proud aunt to her many nieces, including Jennifer, Samantha, Stephanie, Emily, and Chelle, as well as to her nephews: Michael, Eric, Tom, Vincent, Darrel, Joshua, and Clifton.
Susan was a proud graduate of Howe High School, class of 1974, a testament to her commitment to education and personal growth. Throughout her life, she cultivated various interests, including crafting and painting, which allowed her to express her creativity. A devoted member of Life Church, she served as a "Prayer Warrior," showcasing her deep faith and dedication to her spiritual community.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions located at 925 East Hanna Avenue in Indianapolis on February 14, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This will be followed by the funeral service on the same day, starting at 1:00 PM officiated by Pastor Gregory Gentry of Life Church.
Donations in Susan's Memory may be made to the American Kidney Fund or the American Diabetes Association.
Susan’s legacy of love, creativity, and faith will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
