COLEBROOK – William C. Weir, Sr., 85, of Colebrook, passed away peacefully at his home early on Monday, June 2, 2025.
He was born on the family farm on North Hill in Stewartstown on May 15, 1940, a son to the late Harlie and Hallie (Sweatt) Weir. He spent his childhood moving back and forth between his parents' home on Lombard Street in Colebrook and his grandfather's dairy farm in East Colebrook. He enjoyed an idyllic boyhood of time spent fishing, hunting, and riding his bike all over. His parents often lamented that they never quite knew where he was or what he was up to. He attended Colebrook schools and was a 1959 graduate of Colebrook Academy.
In 1964, Bill met the love of his life, Pauline Riendeau, and they were married on September 25th, 1965. He first started working at the Stratford Plywood Mill. Eventually Bill and Pauline took over the family farm from Bill's father, Harlie, who had founded the Christmas tree farm in 1945. Under Bill and Pauline's leadership, Weir Tree Farms grew into one of the largest and most respected Christmas tree farms in New Hampshire. Bill, and his partner at the time, Mike Godzyk, Sr., were responsible for developing the Fralsam Fir, a hybrid Christmas tree, and trademarked the name. Bill was most proud that the Fralsam Fir was recognized as the top tree in the nation by the Wall Street Journal in 2002 and 2008. The success of Weir Tree Farms is a testament to his hard work, vision, and love for the land.
Bill loved to maple sugar in the spring, run the Grand View Snack Shack in the winters, and research and document family history and genealogy with his brother, Earl. His house was always open to family and friends and the coffee pot was always full. He was a good neighbor and civic-minded person, serving as a Town of Colebrook selectman for nine years and as the president, vice president, and a director of the NH/VT Christmas Tree Association. In his retirement, Bill enjoyed spending summers at his lakeside, seasonal camp on Paugus Bay in Laconia, NH, winters at his condo in Orlando, FL, and taking several snowmobile trips with friends in Yellowstone National Park and Canada.
Bill recently celebrated his 85th birthday and was delighted to receive over forty cards in the mail, and enjoyed many visits from family and friends. The love of his family and friends that day, and every day, is evidence of a life well lived.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Pauline Weir, of Colebrook; his daughter, Cheryl McCullock and husband Kevin of Chichester, NH; two sons, William Weir, Jr., and Jay Weir and his wife Christie of Colebrook; a brother, Earl Weir and his wife Marilyn of Chichester; 8 grandchildren, Tyler and Cody McCullock, Kensley Hammond, Makaila Weir, Harlee (Adrienne) Weir, Sydnee Weir, Jackson and Cooper Weir; a very special niece and nephew that he considered as close as his own children, Kelly Connelly and Bob Weir; as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
He is predeceased by a brother, Robert Weir.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home in Colebrook, from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside interment service will be held the next morning, Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m. in the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
Expressions of sympathy in memory of Mr. Weir may be made to the non-profit NH-VT Christmas Tree Association, 91 Main St., Littleton, NH 03561.

Billy was a dear friend from childhood, we did all the foolish things that young boys do together. Bill was a friend to all who crossed his path, he will be missed by all.
RIP my classmate and friend.

I am so sorry for your loss, Pauline. Bill was always such a wonderful guy. My memories of how gracious you and Bill were in welcoming the Colebrook Class of 1959 for our 50th Reunion. What a wonderful time we all had. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
