William Harvey Whichard, known affectionately as Harvey, passed away on April 29, 2024, at his home in Charlotte, North Carolina, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on January 8, 1955, in Robersonville, North Carolina, he was the cherished son of the late Cleo Doris James Whichard and Ernest Bryant Whichard, Jr.
A proud Tar Heel in every sense of the word, Harvey graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was fortunate to spend his years at Chapel Hill in the company of great, lifelong friends, and even more fortunate to meet his bride of 46 years, Ann Wells Whichard.
A kind man with a generous spirit, Harvey delighted in time with family. He spent countless hours in gyms and on ball fields coaching Karen and John's recreation league teams. Later in Karen and John's high school years, he rarely missed an opportunity to watch them and their teammates compete. During the summers, there were the annual treks to the south end of Topsail Island, a place dear to his heart. He shared a special bond with his siblings and cousins, and annual gatherings and trips with the Whichards were some of his favorite moments of the year.
His career was spent dedicatedly serving Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, where he specialized in workers' compensation and catastrophic injury claims, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his integrity and professionalism.
Harvey leaves behind his beloved wife, Ann Wells Whichard, their daughter Karen Elizabeth Whichard, and her husband Mark Alan Schrader; their son, John Bryant Whichard, and his wife Kristen Elaine Okamoto; and their four grandchildren, William Bryant Whichard Schrader, Annabelle Tate Whichard Schrader, Lillian Wells Whichard Schrader, and Charlotte Elaine Okamoto Whichard.
He is also survived by his sister, Amanda Hamm and brother, James Whichard, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly. He is predeceased in death by his parents and his brother, Ernest Bryant Whichard, III.
Services to honor Harvey's life will be held at Noon, Saturday, May 11, 2024 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1901 Archdale Dr., Charlotte NC.
The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Harvey's memory.

Ann,
My deepest sympathy in your loss. I worked with Harvey for all of our years at Liberty. Later we were both Managers and saw each other at annual meeting as well in Atlanta and Charlotte. Then in later years we both stepped out of managing people and into Technical work. We had the joy of talking and visiting far more often then. I treasured his friendship. We shared always a good word about our children and later the grandchildren and it was clear he had a tremendous love of his family.
