Henry Carter Alden, 92, was born in Warren, Ohio on May 30, 1933. He passed away August 25, 2025 in Charlotte, NC.

Carter graduated from Choate-Rosemary Hall and attended the University of Missouri on an NROTC scholarship. He graduated from Mizzou in 1956 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After college, Carter served with the US Navy on the USS Eaton. He traveled all over the world, but found the love of his life at the Officer's Club in Norfolk. When Frances Tharrington moved to Charlotte a year later, he followed her there and they were soon engaged. They married February 12, 1960 in Charlotte.

He began his career at Piedmont Natural Gas and later became a Project Manager at Catalytic, Inc. He finished his career as President of Carrington Engineering Sales, retiring in 1998.

Carter and Frances sang in the choir at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church for over 60 years. He was very active at the church in many ways, including several vestry terms and 15 years of volunteering with Loaves & Fishes.

Carter loved sports, as one of his first words as a child was "ball." His favorite sport was tennis. He was a member of Olde Providence Racquet Club where he played until he was 90 years old.

Carter was a loving dad and family man. He leaves behind his wife Frances, and three children: Susan (wife, Dana McDonald), Annette, and Henry. He also leaves behind much-loved nieces and a nephew-- Abbie, Amy, Becky and Bart.

Services for Carter will be held on Thursday, September 4th at 2:00 pm at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alden Music Fund at Holy Comforter Episcopal Church or to Nourish Up of Charlotte.

The family is grateful for excellent health care that allowed Carter to live a long, vibrant life, especially Dr. Brinda Koya, Dr. David Colon, and Dr. Christopher Snyder. They are thankful for Tammy and Kim, excellent nurses who worked to keep his legs healthy. Also, the staff and community at Brookdale Carriage Club has been supportive and kind.
