William "Bill" Earl Wood, Sr., 88 of Gardendale, AL and formerly of Phenix City, AL passed away Friday evening on February 24, 2023 at Magnolia Ridge at Gardendale Health Care in Gardendale, AL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am EST on Saturday March 4, 2023 at Philadelphia Baptist Church in Smiths Station, AL with Rev. Donald Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Mr. Wood was born January 16, 1935 in Walterboro, SC, son of the late Leslie Earl Wood and Sequel Donaldson Wood. He had served our country honorably and was a Veteran of the United States Army. He went on to serve as Logistician with the Civil Service retiring after many years of faithful service at Fort Benning, GA. He also drove a bus for the Athletic Association of Glenwood High School, as well drove for CVCC. Mr. Wood was a member of the Dixie Seniors Golf Association. He was also a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and served as a Senior Adult Directors of Greeters, a Deacon, Director of Outreach Program, and a member of Andrews Sunday School Class.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Helen Ruth Phillips Wood, and two sons, Edward James Wood, and Andrew Paul Wood.
He is survived by his children, Guieth Wood Bader and husband Nate, William "Bill" Wood, Jr. and wife Anna, stepdaughter, Yja Sanders, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, church family, and many caring friends.
