William H. Wright Jr., 73, of Sellersburg, Indiana, known affectionately to his colleagues as Bill and to his family as B.J., passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2026, leaving a legacy of dedicated service and profound love.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill served with distinction in Explosive Ordnance Disposal (E.O.D.). His commitment to public safety continued throughout his civilian life in Floyd County, Indiana. He served as the Chairman of the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and as the Deputy Director of the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency. Bill also enjoyed a long career with Louisville Gas and Electric, from which he eventually retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. Wright Sr. and Betty Jean Wright, and his brother, Kenneth Wright.
Bill's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karon Wright; his son, Christopher Wright and wife, Georgetta; his daughter, Sherrill Rommel; his grandchildren, Dana, Gillian, and Dylan; and his great-grandchild, Rafael; and his siblings, Brian Wright and family, and Lola Sample and family. He also leaves behind a community of friends who valued his leadership and character.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Martinsburg Cemetery in Martinsburg, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to emergency responder organizations in his honor or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
