William Theodore Young Jr.

Moosup - William T. Young Jr. Passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 in his Moosup home with his loving family by his side. He was born November 19th, 1937 in Norwich Ct the oldest son to the late William T. Young and Florence E. (Gallup) Young. He was joined in marriage to Lorraine T. (Bedard) St. Jean in 1971. Gladly taking on the role of stepfather to the late Lucille Richmond, Lawrence St. Jean, and Linda (Robert) Bergeron. He grew up in Oneco attending the local school then graduating from Plainfield High School in 1954. He went on to join the US Navy with the buddy system, serving as a "Tin Can" Sailor. Following his service to his country he went to work for CL&P in Danielson for more than 38 years. First as a lineman then Chief lineman. During this time under the GI bill he attended QVCC night school earning his associate degree in science. Bill was well known for his beautiful voice, singing country western music accompanied by his ovation guitar. Throughout his life he was an avid reader owning many many books. In 1970 he was crowned the unrated chess champion of New England. In 2023 he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow for his community service with the Rotary Club of Plainfield. He leaves behind his only sibling Phillip E. Young and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his grandchildren Jeremy Richmond, Melissa Dogali, Sean Richmond, Evan Bergeron, Alison St. Jean, Rachel Bergeron, and one great grandson Matthew Dogali. Graveside service will be held Sunday June 4th, 2023 beginning at 2pm in the Evergreen Cemetery, Plainfield Rd, Central Village. Reception to follow at the Central Village fire House.
