Mr. Willie Deatherage Jr, 76, of Lowgap, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday November 21st, 2025. Willie was born June 24, 1949, in Surry County, to the late Willie Deatherage and Lois Lawson Deatherage. He retired from WLA Trucking, where he had worked for many years. Throughout his life, Willie was known for his dedication to his work, particularly during his time driving a truck or working as a mechanic. He was proud of being a hard worker, often reminiscing about stories of driving and the many people that he had worked with over the years. He used to joke about not knowing anyone, but no matter where he went he always ran into someone he knew. He had a warm heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed telling stories and tall tales, which brought him much joy throughout his life. Willie was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Tondah Lee Deatherage. Left to cherish his memories are Brandy Locklear, Karen (Aaron) Carroll, and his sister Scottie Wilson. His grandchildren Abbagail (Ruben) Arellano and Joshua McCann; and his great granddaughter Mirabel Arellano; lifelong friend and brother Johnny Shackleford. A funeral service for Mr. Deatherage will be held on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt Airy with visitation from 12:30pm to 2:00pm. The burial will be at a later date at Peter's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawsonville, NC.
