Willie Lewis Dudley

Willie L. Dudley, 84, husband of Mary Dudley, peacefully transitioned at his home on Sunday, September 28, 2025. Born on August 1, 1941, in Wrightsville, GA, Willie was one of three sons born to the late Pinkie L. Dudley and the late Isaac "Jack" Dudley.
Willie moved to Meriden, CT in 1965 to pursue better opportunities. He started working at the International Silver company then went to work for the Allegheny Ludlum steel company, where he retired after 30 years.
In 1965 he met the love of his life, Mary Winston, and on April 23, 1966, they were married. They were blessed with two children, Willie Dudley, Jr. and Evelyn Dudley. After marrying Mary, he joined Mt. Hebron Baptist Church and was a dedicated member. Willie played baseball for the Meriden Clippers men's adult league for a couple of years and enjoyed fishing, which was his favorite hobby. He could stay at the lake for several hours and be content.
He was also part of a gospel group called The Gospel 5, which originated in Wrightsville, GA, but continued after relocating to Meriden, CT. They became so popular that other churches and venues would invite them to come to perform. They even recorded an album!
Affectionately known to family and friends as "Billy," he was often the one at family gatherings telling funny stories or funny jokes that kept everyone laughing.
Lovingly known as "grandpa" and "papa" by his grandkids and "popop" by his great grandkids, he loved seeing them whenever they came to visit.
Besides his devoted wife of 59 years, Willie leaves to cherish his memory, his three children Willie Dudley, Jr. (Sarah), Evelyn Dudley, and Daria Jones; three grandchildren, Derek Williams, Ethan Dudley, and Eva Dudley; and two great-grandchildren, Amiyah Williams and Greyson Williams. He also leaves his sister, Jackie Minor (Willie Elbert) Dublin, GA; two sisters-in-law, Readie Dudley and Mildred McFadden; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. He is predeceased by his parents and his two brothers, George Dudley, Sr. and Eddie Dudley, Sr.
