Asheboro, North Carolina

Willie Clyde Garner, 78, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away on January 22, 2026, at High Point Medical Center.

Visitation, Thursday, January 29th from 12:45 PM until 1:45 PM at Loflin Funeral Home, Ramseur.

Funeral Services, Thursday, January 29th, at 2 PM at Loflin Chapel, Ramseur with Military Honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Officiating, Rev. Mark Beane.

Willie was born on May 5, 1947, in Chatham County, North Carolina, to the late Willie Howard Garner and Dorothy Maness Garner.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Willie served in combat during the Vietnam War, where he was wounded in action and awarded the Purple Heart. Though he rarely spoke of his experiences, he carried them with quiet strength, humility, and honor.

Following his military service, Willie built a life rooted in hard work and responsibility. He worked in textile plants before beginning a long and dedicated career as a Corrections Officer with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, from which he retired.

Willie found joy in simple, meaningful pursuits. He loved woodworking, crafting furniture and walking sticks, tending his vegetable garden, and keeping his yard in beautiful order. He took pride in caring for what he built and grew and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. A lifelong Elvis fan, he found comfort and joy in music that accompanied many moments of his life.

Above all, Willie was a devoted family man. He treasured time spent with loved ones-whether traveling, sitting on the porch, playing poker, watching westerns, or relaxing at the beach. He also loved his country and lived by strong values of duty, integrity, and perseverance.

In addition to his parents, Willie was preceded in death by his brother, Dan Garner, and his grandson, Timothy Garner, Jr.

He is survived by his devoted wife of fifty years, Joan Locklear Garner of Asheboro; his sons, Patrick Garner and his wife, Aliyah Muangrux, of Chester, Virginia, and Timothy Garner and his fiancée, Vanessa Le, of Kernersville, North Carolina; his beloved grandchildren, Tygerlily Garner and Puetye Muangrux-Garner; his brother, Ray Garner and his wife, Joyce, of Seagrove, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Willie Clyde Garner will be remembered for his quiet strength, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to family-leaving behind a legacy of love that will endure for generations.

I had the pleasure of working with Willie for several years and he was always a caring and hardworking man. He helped me navigate through the environment we worked in, and he showed me and a lot of others how to mentor the next generation. My condolences to his family and I pray for strength for them during this time.
