Willie Hicks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Low Country Mortuary - N. Charleston on May 28, 2024.
Willie Glenn Hicks III, age 64, of North Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on May 13, 2024. Born in Miami, Florida, on July 12, 1959, Willie lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love.
Willie's early years were filled with athletic pursuits, excelling in wrestling and football during his high school years. His passion for sports led him to commit to playing college football, a dream cut short when the program was discontinued.
Willie began his distinguished military career, after high school, initially joining the Marine Corps. After three years and seven months of service, he transferred to the Army, where he dedicated the remainder of his military career. His service took him to nine different countries, one of which was Panama, where he met his beloved wife, Dalia Mixila Hicks.
After retiring from the military, Willie continued his commitment to service by working for various defense contractors. Despite being homebound in later years, he never stopped striving for excellence. He earned an associate degree, a bachelor's degree, and was diligently working towards his master's degree at the time of his passing.
Willie had a deep love for football and western movies, which brought him joy and comfort. His intellectual curiosity and determination to further his education are testaments to his character and resilience.
Willie was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Louise Ball and Willie Henry Hicks II, and his son, Alex Hicks. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Dalia Mixila Hicks, his children: Alisha Hicks-Varner, Jay Vincent, David Hicks, and his cherished granddaughters, Natalia Hicks and Serenity Birdsonog.
Willie was a man of few words but profound actions. His love was evident in his deeds, even if it wasn't always expressed verbally. He spoke warmly of others, showing a quiet yet deep care and affection. His presence in the lives of those he loved will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held at Lowcountry Mortuary on May 30, 2024, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to their GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/b126dd71 in Willie's memory.
