Carl Hicks Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hunn Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Checotah on Feb. 17, 2026.
Carl Dean Hicks, 73, of Wagoner, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 17, 2026.

Carl was born on October 9, 1952, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Arlis and Opal (Eager) Hicks. He grew up with strong values of faith, family, and hard work-principles that guided him throughout his life.

A 1971 graduate of Crowder High School, Carl married the love of his life, Jackie Faye Hayes, on August 21, 1971, in Crowder, Oklahoma. For 54 wonderful years, they built a life centered on love, devotion, and family. Their marriage was a true partnership, full of laughter, dedication, and unwavering support.

Carl was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. He spent his career working in construction, primarily in the concrete industry, where he took pride in honest, hard work. He was the kind of man who could fix just about anything. Whether he was working on a project, tinkering in the yard, or simply "piddling" around the house, Carl found joy in staying busy and making things better than he found them.

More than anything, Carl loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. His steady presence, quiet strength, and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jackie Hicks, of the home; his son, Brian Hicks and wife Kristy of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his daughter, Carla Martin and husband Oliver of Checotah, Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, who brought him tremendous pride and happiness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlis and Opal Hicks; his sister, Patricia Worthy and his grandfather, W.O. Eager.

Honoring Carl's wishes, cremation is planned, and no services have been scheduled at this time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hunn Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 211 W. Okmulgee, Checotah, Oklahoma 74426.
