Willie B. (Bill) Singleton, Jr., 90, husband of the late Jane R. Singleton died Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Covenant Place.
A true Southern Gentleman, the sweetest man I've known, one of my favorite customers, what a great person he was, one of my favorite people these are just a few of the words from people who knew our Daddy.
He was born in Sumter in 1933 to the late Jennie Louise Singleton and the late Willie B. Singleton, Sr. His mother taught school and his father worked construction leaving his beloved Grandmother (Maa), who lived with his family, to help raise he and his brothers. Bill graduated from Edmonds High School in Sumter, SC and then entered the Air Force where he served during the Korean War. After returning home, Bill attended Florida State University where he earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1959. In 1971 he and his late wife, Jane R. Singleton, started Jet-Vac Sewer Equipment Services, Inc. and guided the company until 1998 when he retired and sold it to the current owners. He attended Sumter First Baptist Church where he sang in the Senior Choir until he "just didn't have the wind" anymore.
Bill will always be remembered for his sweet spirit and southern gentleman ways. For the last few years, he was always saying "I'm doing good and as much as I can". He had many wonderful years, and we couldn't have asked for a better father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. We will miss him every day, but will carry with us his memory, love, and kindness forever.
Surviving are his three children: William Bradford Singleton (Cindy), Christine Singleton Seward, and Grace Singleton Failmezger (Gene). Nine grandchildren: Kyle, Trey, Parker, Landon (Tiffany), Amanda (Miguel), James (Heather), Billy (Shauni), Elizabeth, Joey (Kim). Thirteen great-grandchildren: Logan, Mason, Evie, Landon (LT), River, Rain, Jasamine, Madison, Rowan, Reese, Clint, Ian, Karlie Bay.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Jo Singleton; two brothers, Claude J. Singleton, and Robert S. Singleton; one great-grandson, Kaleb Angel Ramos.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel officiated by the Rev. Dr. Bob Calvert. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be William Barkley, Kyle Leahigh, Landon Bradshaw, James Bradshaw, William (Trey) Singleton, and Parker Singleton. Honorary pallbearer will be Miguel Ramos.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
