WILLIS CALVIN ("WC") McPHAUL, passed away peacefully, at the age of 94, on Thursday, August 19, 2021, in Austin. Texas.
Willis ("WC") was born on September 9, 1926, in Rogers, Texas and, son of the late Sherman and Sarah Daniels McPhaul. He attended and graduated from Old Anderson High School. After graduating from high school, WC served in the United States Army, and was Honorably Discharged after receiving the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Philippine Independence Medal.
W.C. was a hard-working man. He worked for the Driskel Hotel and Balcones Woods Country Club for over 20 years. Willis could be seen all over Austin, where he drove a taxi cab for over 20 years. President Johnson noticed the hard work of Willis and even offered him a job, which Willis declined. After he retired, Willis enjoyed working on his truck and cars, tinkering with electronics, and keeping up with world news and politics.
Willis leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 54 years, Dorothy Jean McPhaul; his brother, Curtis Brown (Connie); step-children: Pamela Holt, Tanny Overton (Sonnetta), and Frederick Overton; grandchildren: A. J. McPhaul, Jr. (Jackie), Jason McPhaul (Hannah), Sametria Wilson (Ru'zun), Briana Holt, Alexandria Johnson (Albert), Tanny Overton, Jr., Michael Overton, and Cooper Overton; great-grandchildren: Wilson, Isaiah, Olivia, Jennings, Keishaun, Kimani, Braxton, and Sianna; his favorite niece, Mary Ann Lincoln (Harold); and, a host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Sherman and Sarah McPhaul; siblings: Mary Catherine Croney, Ruby Williams, Eddie Lee Davis, J/ D. McPhaul, Melvin Brown, and Morris Brown; and, his son, A. J. McPhaul.
YOU NEVER SAID GOODBYE
A million times we needed you,
A million times we cried
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death, we love you still.
In my heart, you hold a place
That no one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you
But you didn't go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God took you home.
