Wilma "Colleen" Baker, 95, was reunited with her beloved husband Carl in their heavenly home on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Colleen was born August 2, 1929, in
Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Roy and Dessie Dixon. She was raised in Bartlesville on Kaw Street and attended Lincoln Elementary School until the 6th grade. When Colleen was age 12, the family moved to a ranch/farm southwest of Copan, Oklahoma.
Colleen met the love of her life, Carl Marvin Baker, Sr. shortly after starting the 6th grade at Copan Public Schools. During a winter snow, she was introduced to Carl via a snowball to the face. I guess it could have been love at first "hit"! It took a little while, but in time her mom, Dessie Dixon, grew to love Carl as the son she never had. They were married in Caney, Kansas, on August 15, 1945, just as World War II was ending. They lived in Copan from that time until Carl's death in 2015, just before their 70th Anniversary.
Colleen left Copan Public Schools after grade 9; however, she attended Bartlesville Business College and then worked with Phillips Petroleum Company for 35 years as an Executive Secretary in the Supply and Transportation Department. She had the gift of shorthand and typing at 100 words per minute along with her excellent organizational skills.
Although a very successful Executive Secretary, she excelled even more in her skills at cooking, loving her family, and working in her church, the Copan First Baptist Church. She and Carl worked and supported the church for many years with service and support. She was a pillar of the Copan community and loved Copan Schools and sports and the town with all her heart. She had a special testimony of Jesus Christ and family and love and service, especially Bible School.
One year after Carl went home to Jesus, Colleen moved back to Bartlesville to Green Country Independent Living where she lived for 9 years. At Green Country she was well known and loved. She was indeed the Bingo Queen, winning so many tokens that when she moved out this past February, she still had about 20 dollars worth of tokens to the Green Country store!
She was blessed with great health and stamina; however, she experienced a stroke the day after Thanksgiving 2024. She experienced some left-sided paralysis in her left arm, tongue, and leg. This caused a move to the Bartlesville Health and Rehab Community. She was much loved and cared for there until her journey on Earth ended on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Preceding her to Heaven was her Forever Sweetheart Carl; her first born, Carl, Jr.; her parents, Roy and Dessie Dixon; her beloved sisters, Deloras Johnson and Bonnie Galanis; her special brothers-in-law, Carl Johson and George Galanis; her aunt, Avis Hobson; and uncle, Harold Hobson; and cousin, Maxie Hobson; uncles, Billy and Roy Vern Lynn; along with many beloved friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Lana Elaine Hintze and husband Richard; grandchildren, Kimbery Dawn Barnett, Charles Clayton Baker, Charity Carlyn Hintze, Jeffrey Baker Hintze, and A Jordan Hintze; great-grandchildren, Jacob Barnett, Carli Barnett, Avery Baker, Samantha Baker, Jonah Hintze, Ruth Hintze, Wesley Hintze, and Taya Hintze; great-great-grandchildren, Eli Barnett and Baby Barnett (due to arrive this May!)
For those who knew her, you will understand that this is such a brief review of such a rich and special life. She indeed was a special daughter of God with great blessings and love given to her throughout her journey. She gave special love and support to all she touched on her journey. Surley, her children do rise up and call her blessed (Proverbs 31: 28-31).
