Wilma Jean Blackman, 95 of Headlee passed away at 5:50 a.m., Sunday, October 12, 2025 at I.U. White Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
Born on December 31, 1929 at home in Pulaski County to Roy and Mae (Penny) Martin.
She attended Union Schools grades 1-8 in Cass Twp. White County and graduated from Royal Center High School in 1947.
Wilma was a member of White Oak United Methodist Church since 1940.
On December 8, 1948 she married Howard “Blackie” Blackman. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2014 after 65 years of marriage.
She was a devoted farmwife in the field and raising livestock. She was also the secretary for the family business, Blackman Excavating, Inc. Wilma also wrote for the Headlee News and the Royal Center Record for many years.
She and Blackie spent many winters in Florida. Wilma enjoyed Lawrence Welk music, watching Purdue basketball and Chicago Cubs games. She attended many school and sports events over the years of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family was most important and brought her comfort and pleasure.
Survivors include her children, Terry Blackman, Tom Blackman (Cindy), Ron Blackman (Cindy) and Jeannie Knauff (Vince). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and 2 on the way.
She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Homer and Boyd Martin, 2 sisters, Thelma Ploss and Opal Kelley, daughter-in law, Donna Baker Blackman, 1 infant grandchild, 2 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2025 at Rans Funeral Homes & Crematory, Harrison Chapel, Royal Center.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 16, 2025 at the funeral home.
Burial will be at Pro Cemetery near Headlee.
Memorial contributions can be made to White Oak United Methodist Church and/or Pro Cemetery.
